WINGS OF STARLIGHT: FIRST READ REVIEW

Image
WINGS OF STARLIGHT by ALLISON SAFT It took me three whole days to read this book and I regret not taking more time. I could have given my poor heart a few more days of being whole and healthy. Now I am a shattered mess of tears and hysteria and pain. Technically, I knew how this was going to end. We all knew Clarion and Milori get their happy ending in the movie. But can you blame a girl of hoping for a little epilogue? Even just a page? There was no epilogue. There was only pain. I am sure everyone who is going to read this book will already know about Queen Clarion and Lord Milori but still for the sake of this blog, here it goes: warm and winter fairies live in Pixie Hollow in four different seasons. The warm fairies cannot go to the Winter and the winter fairies cannot come to any of the warm seasons because that can hurt their wings. Princess Clarion, living in Summer is going to be coronated in one month when a huge problem arises and puts all of Pixie Hollow at risk. Princess Cl...

CROSS-CHECKED: FIRST READ REVIEW

Image
CROSS-CHECKED by JULIA CONNORS Hockey romance? Badass bitch? Boss x employee?? SHE IS THE BOSS??? Hell, yes, count me in. I have read Julia Connors only a grand total of four times, including Cross-Checked , ( The Trade-Up is an official installment, bite me) and she is already in my top 3 hockey romance authors. She has strong heroines, very  down bad men who do not get threatened by their woman's success, lots of baby times, and lots of gal times. Oh, and lots of spice ! Especially in this book. There was honestly so much sex it can qualify for erotica. (Not that I am complaining!) But seriously, I waited a whole year for this book and it fucking delivered . I called AJ and McCabe back in the first third of first book and I was so glad to watch them come to life (or pages). One thing I did not expect was the age gap. Very minor spoiler alert here, but AJ is seven years older. And it was so hot. Here she is, the first ever female GM in the NHL, respected by literally every single ...

REVIEW FOR UNDERHYPED: THE NIGHT HUNT

Image
THE NIGHT HUNT by ALEXANDRA CHRISTO STANDALONE REVIEW: I said it once and I will say it again: you can read this author in any sequence you want, and every book will still be better than the last. The story follows a monster who feeds on fears. Atia saw her parents killed by the Gods, and she understandably hates them. But can she do anything about it? No. Not yet and not alone. Her kind of monsters, called the Nefas, were banished to the mortal realm and there is one rule every monster must follow on the mortal realm: do not kill any human. Of course, monsters still do that, and if they are fast enough, they will not get cursed. Atia kills a man accidently, and is now cursed. And can one undo a curse? By killing a vampire, a banshee, and a God. Enter Silas, a Herald, who was punished to serve the God of Death for one hundred years. Fifty years in, he is very bored by his monotonous life and would have killed himself if he wasn’t already dead. Then he learns that for his ...

Marriage of Convenience Romances That Are Hotter Than Insta-Romances

Image
Who loves a little arranged marriage romance? I don't know about you, but I eat this trope, I survive by reading marriage of conveniences. They are just so wholesome (kinda) I love them. Maybe also because this the trope most likely going to happen to me. I am fine with that, totally. Because of course, I am going to get a husband like the guys in one of these books: Terms and Conditions by Lauren Asher Ah, the TikTok favourite. I will be honest here, this was not my favourite, I liked the first book The Fine Print more. But still, Terms and Conditions was a great book. It had a badass female lead, a grumpy boss, lots of sexual tension, and lots of brotherly ribbing. And of course, lots of money. Declan Kane have to have a heir within one year to be able to lay claim to his grandfather's property. And this man just doesn't care . His assistant is tired of setting him up with girls only to watch him blow it all up one way or another. What to do now? Why, marry the assistant,...

THE GRANDEST GAME: FIRST READ REVIEW

Image
THE GRANDEST GAME by JENNIFER LYNN BARNES THESE COVERS JUST GET BETTER WITH EVERY BOOK BTW! So, we finally got Grayson's book after waiting for so long, with no Grayson's POV unfortunately, but we are not really complaining. I started reading this book the day it was published, but it took me ten days to absorb it enough to write this review now. In short, I am going to say: it was everything the fans wanted. We had Grayson silently crazy for Lyra, Lyra trying hard not to fall for Grayson, Savannah and Rohan ready to tear each other’s clothes off any minute, cutesy Avery-Jamie scenes, Big Brother Nash and adorable Xander. Everything the fandom ever wanted, JLB delivered. I will be honest. I squealed and screamed and giggled like a crazy ass fangirl every two pages. Grayson and Lyra were trying so hard to not look like they were thinking about nothing except each other, and Savannah and Rohan had the chemistry that would have burned the pages if I was reading a hardcopy. G...

REVIEW FOR UNDERHYPED: WHAT YOU WISH FOR

Image
WHAT YOU WISH FOR by KATHERINE CENTER STANDALONE REVIEW: Katherine Center delivers once again with this heartful small town romance. Typical for her books, the protagonist once again has a less known but common syndrome, disorder, or disease and we read it exactly how it affects their daily lives and learn their normal – which is not that different from our normal. Also, typical for her books, there is lots and lots of monologue (I mean, the woman’s whole writing style is narrative where the protagonist is always, always overthinking at every moment) with lots of good friendships and humour. Have I mentioned how much I love Katherine’s writing style? Because the answer is a lot . I read a book of hers, and then I think like her protagonists for the next seven working days. Sadly, I am a better person for those seven days than I am for any other consecutive seven days of my life. What You Wish For is about Sam, who has had epilepsy since early childhood, something which fucked...

7 Slow Burn Romances That Will Make You Tingle

Image
Slow Burn has been one of my favourite tropes of all time - the anticipation, the tension, the second-guessing, the little moments. I live for all of those. But unfortunately, this is not a trope that is found frequently in my experience. Or at least, well-written slow burn romances. It is not an easy trope to write and it shows. The littlest mistake or impatience in the plot makes it all drain down the pipe. But when it works, oh, it works .  Here are some slow burn romances that really, really did it for me: From Lukov With Love by Mariana Zapata The first book in the list is, of course, by the Slow Burn Queen: Mariana Zapata. No one writes it better than her, tested and proven. Another trademark of her books is how the setting is usually in the professional sports world. From Lukov With Love follows two figure skaters who hate each other but now have to work together for at least one season. It is not my favourite book by her, but it is the first one I read and I was an instant ...

REVIEW FOR UNDERHYPED: OUR SAVAGE SONG

Image
MONSTERS OF VERITY by V. E. SCHWAB BOOKS: This Savage Song, #1 Our Dark Duet, #2 REVIEW: It’s Victoria Schwab. Of course it is a heart-breaking, emotionally-wrecking, hangover-inducing and satisfying read. I am not even going to start with the synopsis – this woman brings ideas completely out of this world, makes us read them non-stop for 4 craving days, and then leaves us in a numb state for the next 4 days. More, even. I read this book three months ago and I am still hungover over it. The story-telling that Victoria can do is unparalleled (except, maybe, Holly Black, call me biased I don’t care). This story is set in Verity, a fictional, futuristic American state, that is so choked full of violence that it is actually manifesting in physical forms – corsai, malchai, sunai . And if that wasn’t enough, the capital of Verity, V-City, the city plagued with almost all the monsters, is divided into two parts – one owned by Callum Harker (I hate him and I love him and I hate him...

REVIEW FOR UNDERHYPED: FIERCE HEART

Image
ELVEN ALLIANCE SERIES by TARA GRAYCE BOOKS: Fierce Heart, #1 War Bound, #2 Death Wind, #3 Troll Queen, #4 Pretense, #5 Shield Band, #6 NOVELLAS: Elf Prince Elf King Heart Bond REVIEW: Okay, so, this was a series my Tumblr bestie had been forcing me to read for almost a year before I finally felt like reading an elf fantasy romance. And I must say, I am so grateful to her for recommending me this beautiful, beautiful series. Essie is the only princess of Escarland and is the apple of the eye of her brothers Averett, Julien, and Edmund. Escarland had been at a war with their neighbouring elf kingdom, Taranhiel, for a few years before the kings of both kingdoms were killed and a brittle treaty was signed. Now fifteen years later, the tensions are high and Essie proposes the brilliant idea of a marriage alliance to encourage peace – thinking the elves would refuse, thanks to their revulsion of humans, and finally do something at their end. But no one would h...

REVIEW FOR UNDERHYPED: ROYALLY F*CKED

Image
A ROYAL AFFAIR SERIES by LEXY TIMMS BOOKS: Royally F*cked, #1 Royally Screwed, #2 Royally Obsessed, #3 REVIEW: This was my first time reading this author, and I must admit I wasn’t expecting go read beyond the first twenty or so pages. But, oh I did. I finished the whole book in a single day (with half a day left) and I was not disappointed. Actually, I was disappointed, but not for reasons concerning the writing. The writing was great: slow at first but then it became really engaging and I must applaud the author for the well-paced humour. The world-building was contemporary fiction, and I don’t know if it was real enough (I have no idea how it works in European monarchies) but was nice enough. The story is about Alora, a broke American overachiever who is doing double majors in one of the most prestigious universities of Europe while juggling a lot of part-time jobs to make ends meet. One of these jobs include tutoring, and enter the crown prince (and only prince) of Eldinburgh...

REVIEW FOR UNDERHYPED: THE GRACE YEAR

Image
THE GRACE YEAR by KIM LIGGETT STANDALONE REVIEW: If this wasn’t the height of morbidly gratifying, I don’t know what is. The blurred world-building, the cruel and tortured characters, the grisly scenes and the bone-chilling story. All of it will leave you in a semi-comatose state for days (weeks, months). Even though the start was somewhat slow, I couldn’t bring myself to put it down from the first page. (From the damned epigraph: “A rat in a maze is free to go anywhere, as long as it stays inside the maze.”) And God, if that epigraph wasn’t the perfect foreshadowing. The women in the fantasy were exactly like a trapped rat who didn’t know it was trapped. Or at least, that was what the protagonist used to believe. Romantically, it’s a love triangle. I, personally, don’t really like them and I didn’t like it here, either. But I cannot say I was dissatisfied. It was a series of heartbreaks and I loved it. I loved the bittersweet ending even more. (And I loved Michael the most, ...

REVIEW FOR UNDERRATED: THE LONE CITY SERIES

Image
THE LONE CITY CHRONICLES by AMY EWING BOOKS: The Jewel, #1 The White Rose, #2 The Black Key, #3 NOVELLAS: Wishing Well Sil’s Story Ash’s Story Lucien’s Story House Of Stone Garnet’s Story REVIEW: Six out of five stars. Absolutely unable to understand the plethora of negative reviews on this jewel (pun intended) of a story. The characters were diverse, their development was amazing and the world building was great – and without any early instalment weirdness too! The plot was original and compelling, taking us through a roller coaster of feelings. There were characters who you can’t help but love and there were characters who you just cannot stop hating, ever (*cough* Countess of Stone *cough*). Scenes you will just melt for and scenes that will chill you to bones. But all of it will definitely make you forget that they are not real, if only for a few chapters....
